Taping Policies
http://www.notonmars.com/taping.html
The taping policy for Not on Mars shows is pretty simple... TAPING AND TRADING OF TAPES, CDR'S, AND FLAC OR SHN FILES ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED!!!
We feel that taping and tape trading is just as important to us as it is to you. We benefit by having our music spread around and having new people exposed to it. You benefit from having something to remind you of the fun you had at a given show. Also, tapes are nice to help you more clearly remember the shows where maybe you had just a little TOO MUCH fun.
There are some pretty basic guidlines we ask you to follow:
-Audience taping is encouraged. We may be able to provide soundboard patches sometimes, but at many of our smaller gigs, we don't run all of the instruments through the board, so soundboard tapes would sound very strange.
-Be prepared to supply your own power. You may be able to plug into a wall sometimes, but dont count on it. Battery packs are the way to go.
-Be nice. Don't get in the way of the band or venue employees. Also, don't ask people to be quiet around your mics... the live experience comes first, taping is always secondary.
-At any show, if you are given a hard time by the venue owners or employees about bringing recording gear into the show, leave the stuff in your car, come talk to us, and we'll get things sorted out. It's important that everyone treats the venue owners and employees with respect, they're the ones paying US.
-Taping and trading should always be non-profit. We won't charge you to make the tapes, so don't sell them. If you try to sell tapes or CDs of our shows, we'll find you and kick your ass.
-Be prepared to send a copy of any show you tape to the band if we request that you do. We don't tape all of our shows, so if you're taping a show that we're not, we'll probably ask for a copy.
-Video taping is subject to the same rules. If you want to video tape, talk to us before bringing your stuff in, it usually shouldn't be a problem, but just let us know first.
-Have fun, be kind, and take care.

On April 23, 2005 Not On Mars gave their OK for archive.org:
"Hello,
My name is Dylan Heckman, I play keyboards in the Madison, Wis. band called Not On Mars. On behalf of the whole band, I would like to wholeheartedly grant permission to have any recordings of our music, with the exception of official 'for sale' releases (of which there are none, yet) available for free public download from the Live Music Archive at archive.org
Our official taping/trading policy can be viewed online at:
http://www.notonmars.com/taping.html
We are eager to be included in the archive and will begin uploading material as soon as we are approved.
Thank you,
Dylan H.
